This part of the Virginia Valley culture may not be top of mind to those visiting our area, but rest assured that our arts and entertainment is alive and well. Whether you are interested in visiting galleries full of local works or seeing an off-Broadway type play performance, you will find it in the Virginia Valley. Additionally, we have numerous music and concert venues that range from classical to hip-hop. Every cultural taste, young and old can be quenched in the Virginia Valley.

American Shakespeare Center’s Blackfriars Playhouse

The Blackfriars Playhouse is the world’s only re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theater.  Open year-round for performances of Shakespeare and Renaissance drama, called “shamelessly entertaining” by the Washington Post.  Playhouse tours daily. Art Galleries of Staunton

Oak Grove Theater

55 years under the oaks and still growing.  Oak Grove Theater is a wonderful outdoor theater. P. Buckley Moss Museum

Discover the art of one of America’s most celebrated and popular artists, Patricia Buckley Moss. The P. Buckley Moss Museum houses the permanent collection of Pat’s original works.  Pat opens her home four times a year to sign her work for collectors.  Tours are available on request.  The Museum sales gallery offers a large selection of prints and gift items.

R. R. Smith Center for History and Art

Headquarters to three non-profit organizations – Staunton Augusta Art Center, Historic Staunton Foundation and Augusta County Historical Society.  Includes exhibition and retail art galleries, history gallery and research archives, preservation resource center and the T.J. Collins and Sons Architectural Drawing archive. Shenandoah Valley Art Center, Inc.

We welcome you to visit our galleries and open studios! The Shenandoah Valley Art Center is a non-profit community art center whose mission is to bring art education and awareness to the Shenandoah Valley through exhibits, classes, workshops, performances and cultural trips. The exhibits change monthly and vary greatly; there is an opening reception the first Thursday of each month at 5:00pm. There is no admission charge and we are wheelchair accessible.
